Hike & Talk Therapy

Therapy Beyond the Trailhead

Sometimes the best conversations happen when we're moving through nature.

Hike & Talk Therapy combines evidence-based psychotherapy with the experience of walking wooded trails throughout the Houston area. Away from traffic, screens, and the distractions of everyday life, many people find it easier to slow down, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations.

If you've ever found clarity on a hike, during a walk in the woods, or while sitting quietly outdoors, you already understand what makes this experience different.

What Is Hike & Talk Therapy?

Hike & Talk Therapy is traditional psychotherapy conducted on carefully selected forest trails rather than inside an office.

The therapeutic work doesn't change. We still explore your goals, work through challenges, build coping skills, and create meaningful change.

The setting simply becomes part of the experience.

Unlike a neighborhood walk, these sessions take place in natural environments where the pace is slower, the surroundings are quieter, and there is often more room for reflection.

Why Nature?

Many people spend nearly every day indoors.

We move from the house, to the car, to the office, and back again.

Stepping onto a wooded trail creates something different.

The sound of leaves overhead.

The rhythm of walking.

Fresh air.

Birdsong.

Long stretches without interruptions.

While Hike & Talk Therapy isn't about escaping life's challenges, many clients find that nature makes it easier to approach those challenges with curiosity, perspective, and a calmer mind.

Is Hike & Talk Therapy Right for You?

This approach may be a great fit if you:

  • Feel mentally refreshed after time outside

Hike & Talk Therapy is best suited for clients who are comfortable walking several miles at a relaxed pace over uneven terrain.

Let's talk about your goals and whether Hike & Talk Therapy is the right approach for you.

Where We Hike

Sessions take place on carefully selected forest trails throughout the Houston area.

Locations are chosen based on privacy, safety, trail conditions, and your comfort level.

Specific meeting locations are discussed before your appointment, and hikes are matched to your experience and physical ability.

What to Expect

Every Hike & Talk session includes the same professional standards and ethical care as traditional psychotherapy.

We'll begin by reviewing the route and discussing any confidentiality considerations unique to being outdoors.

Our pace is conversational rather than athletic. There is no expectation to keep a certain speed or complete a particular distance. We can slow down, stop, or rest whenever needed.

If weather or trail conditions make an outdoor session impractical, we'll simply move the appointment to the office or meet virtually.

Why I Offer Hike & Talk Therapy

Some of the most meaningful conversations I've had haven't happened across a desk.

They've happened while hiking, backpacking, exploring trails, and spending time outdoors.

Over the years I've come to appreciate how nature encourages people to slow down, notice more, and create space for reflection.

Offering Hike & Talk Therapy felt like a natural extension of both my work as a therapist and my own connection with the outdoors.

For clients who enjoy being outside, it can be a unique way to experience therapy while reconnecting with something many of us don't experience often enough: quiet, movement, and nature.
